Costa Rica Aquiares | espresso - single origin high-end coffee from Cartago, Costa Rica

Espresso release #0004: Costa Rica Aquiares!

In 2021 we met Diego Robelo - producer and manager of the Aquiares Estate - for the first time at HostMilano. His energetic character was then (and still is) inimitable and over the years we have sporadically stayed in touch. When we ran into him again in June at World of Coffee in Brussels, he was very enthusiastic to hear that we had started our own coffee roasting company and even happier to hear that we have one of his coffees in our range via Cuprima. A great bond, for a great coffee! What can you taste? Vanilla, strawberry, mango and almond.

About Aquiares Estate

Aquiares is one of Costa Rica's most historic coffee plantations, located on the fertile slopes of the Turrialba volcano, between the Aquiares and Turrialba rivers. The plantation was founded in 1890 and gained recognition for producing high-quality, washed coffee, thereby contributing to Costa Rica's reputation on the international coffee market.

The plantation and the local community have grown together over generations, leading to a strong bond based on long-term sustainability, education, and mutual development. Today, Aquiares continues to combine traditional coffee farming with a modern focus on quality and traceability.

The coffee is grown at an altitude between 820 and 1,400 meters above sea level, in rich volcanic soil. The cool nighttime temperatures and consistent humidity create ideal conditions for coffee varieties such as Caturra. These conditions produce a sweet and balanced cup of coffee, with notes of chocolate, cinnamon, fruit, and a refined citrus acidity.
Aquiares manages every stage of the production process—from raising seedlings and cultivation to harvesting and processing—ensuring consistency, quality, and full traceability throughout the entire process.

Shipping & Returns

At Drip Coffee, we roast our coffee in small batches and ship it as fresh as possible. Orders are generally processed within 1–3 business days after receipt of payment.

Pouring tips

Always use freshly ground coffee beans in your portafilter - ideally, grind them yourself. Our base recipe for this coffee is 19g in with an extraction time of 28" for a 50g double shot.

Storage & Maintenance

Store coffee properly and enjoy its delicious aroma for longer.

Keep it in a cool, dark place, but avoid the refrigerator! Want to store the coffee for longer? Freeze small quantities in an airtight container.

Our coffee is packaged in aroma-tight bags with a valve, so that its taste and quality are optimally preserved once it leaves the roastery.

Hmm, these are tasty too!

From origin to cup

Bringing out the best in coffee isn't just about roasting it well; it's about everything that happens before and after. We work with importers who value transparency, and we choose coffees for their origin and character, not for convenience.

Once they reach our roastery in Zottegem, each batch is carefully roasted in small quantities and tailored to what makes that coffee unique, whether it's intended for a filter brew or an espresso machine.

The process doesn't stop there: how it is packaged, stored, and brewed also determines the cup you ultimately drink. It is that attention from start to finish that, in our opinion, makes the difference.
