About Fazendas Dutra

The family business began in the 1950s when José Dutra Sobrinho (Zeca Dutra) – the family patriarch – started farming in Minas Gerais, with just over 1 hectare of land. 'Zeca' Dutra saw the potential of the land despite the small size of the farm and used his passion for coffee cultivation to expand and improve the farm. When Zeca Dutra passed away in September 1999, leaving more than 300 hectares of coffee to his wife Osvaldina Dutra and the family, his sons and daughters – now with over 35 years in agribusiness and in all segments of the coffee production chain – decided to make the most of their father's legacy. After investments and training to expand their knowledge base on the farm and to apply the best possible practices in their agriculture, they can proudly say today that they are producers of fully organically grown specialty/high-end coffee.

The Dutra farms (Fazendas Dutra) are located in the beautiful Matas de Minas region, in São João do Manhuaçu, 300 km inland from the east coast of Brazil. Coffee production takes place through entirely artisanal processes that make a significant difference in the end result of the product.

The Dutra brothers have been involved in coffee cultivation since the day they were born. Production takes place in a mountainous area, about 1400 meters above sea level. Thanks to the artisanal process, the altitude and the soil of the farm, they obtain a differentiated product, and the coffees are therefore ranked among the best coffees in Brazil and the world each year, both in terms of quality and sustainability.

Coffee is cultivated on contour lines in consortium with the production of avocado and African mahogany, which serve as shade trees for the coffee. In addition, the farms are self-sufficient in the production of eucalyptus, which are reused during the harvest period and in the coffee drying machines.

Coffee cultivation takes place in harmony with nature. The coffee plantations are planted between rocks, forests and waterfalls, in perfect harmony with the environment. These are coffees with an exceptionally distinctive flavor profile for the market.
